McLain Hunter

From the stage to the spotlight - where Jazz meets Theatre

ABOUT

McLain Hunter is a musical theatre triple threat with a twist—literally. A classically trained vocalist with a powerful range that spans jazz, rock, and musical theatre, McLain also has an impressive talent for contortionism. Based in the vibrant SF Bay Area, she's been wowing audiences since she was just three years old, starting her journey in ballet and gymnastics before diving headfirst into the world of musical theatre. Her debut role at the age of eleven, as Annie in Annie, set the stage for a lifelong passion for performance. Since then, McLain has continued to captivate audiences with her dynamic stage presence and versatility, with one of her most unforgettable roles being Audrey 2 in Little Shop of Horrors with Diablo Theatre Company. Most recently, McLain was part of the original cast workshop of A Christmas Carol 2 alongside the writers and composers Anthony DeAngelis, Patrick Spencer, and Charlie O'Leary. Whether she's belting out a tune or bending the laws of physics, McLain brings a unique blend of artistry, athleticism, and heart to everything she does.

With a voice that bridges the worlds of jazz and musical theatre, McLain is a versatile performer whose artistry blends soulful storytelling with dynamic stage presence. Drawing inspiration from legends like Muddy Waters, Ella Fitzgerald, and Nina Simone, her jazz performances are rich with emotion and depth. Her journey with Jazz and the Blues began at the age of 10 when her godmother, blues artist Shari Puorto, invited her onstage to perform. That moment ignited a lifelong passion for music and storytelling, leading her to extensive training in Opera, Musical Theatre, Rock, and Jazz. Under the guidance of esteemed mentors Bradley Batz, Jessica Best, Sean Michael Flowers, and Bill Daugherty, she honed a vocal style that is both technically refined and emotionally raw. As a jazz singer, she captivates audiences in intimate clubs and large venues alike, delivering contemporary yet timeless interpretations of the genre.

WHY BOTH?

At the heart of her artistry is a simple yet profound mission: to make people feel seen and understood. Whether interpreting a jazz standard or embodying a character on stage, her performances offer a sense of connection, reminding audiences that they are not alone in their experiences.
